Heyo! Just another random who’s moving over from centralized social media to the Fediverse. Mastodon wasn’t too bad but I love anything like Reddit!

Games, anime, Japanese, food, and music are my loves. Fanfic beats food tho, I can read for hours instead!

Like others said, any turn-based game. Currently suffering enjoying SMT III Nocturne, others I’ve played are Octopath, Fire Emblem, Pokemon (esp Mystery Dungeon), Atlus in general. Balatro sounds nice. Rhythm heaven is WarioWare + Music, and that’s definitely doable one-handed, especially the Wii version. My mom said Fortune Street (Monopoly but Mario + Dragon Quest) lol.

Mobile games can be very doable, a cute one I remember is Candies n’ Curses, a game where you swipe to direct the character around a haunted mansion and fight bosses. Easily can be played with one hand. If you can tolerate gachas, Cookie Run Kingdom can be put on auto so you don’t have to tap much, I just like the story and characters. I think Geometry dash can be doable on low levels with one hand?

Find your inner weeabo and play some Japanese visual novels. Or if you’re a normal person then Ace Attorney would be a fantastic choice, and is a long-ass series. Prepare for courtroom bullshit and jokes.

I get that getting all the games as they released was hard, because the series is on so many platforms. But I really don’t get the “KH is hard to understand” argument today, because you can easily find hundreds of letsplays for every game, cutscenes complications, play/watch every game on the PS4 remix disk, and even watch a fandub of the mobile games (Dark Road is a WIP) if you don’t like the KHUX Back Cover recap.

So like, what’s so hard? If you skip games and only read a wiki (the worst possible way to consume any sort of media, mind you), of course you’re not gonna know the story and characters, and of course it’ll sound confusing.

YES!

Even though I think some Palworld designs are questionable, I’m devastated by Pokemon’s wasted potential and Nintendo’s laziness surrounding the franchise. It sucks that they’re the only major catch-em-all game we’ve got, they don’t have to try because they have no competition. I tried Cassette Beasts, and while I think the fusion and type system is pretty good, the story and characters were lacking for me so I haven’t finished it. I have no desire for Yo-kai watch, and I don’t feel like playing Digimon.

Even if I’ll never play “Pokemon: Breath of the Fortnite” I still want Palworld to do well and flip Nintendo off for being an ass. That “riding is only allowed in our games” patent is total bullshit.

Yeah I love watching them and really wanna get into them (P4AU, Guilty Gear, Street Fighter, etc.), plus their soundtracks are banger. But I fucking suck at fighting games and the only one I ever tolerated was the soloplayer Pokken Tournament campaign. I honestly got bored of both 3DS and Wii U smash as a child very quickly, and to this day I feel bad for the money wasted.

Lol I know what a Thwomp is, I was more so noting the fact that the pic is missing a fourth player, so I just was thinking about fighting game crossovers in general.

Almost thought the pic was a shitpost before I remembered Smash exists (forgive me I hate fighting games). Lovely that we live in a timeline where Shirtless sephiroth, Kirby’s Pokemon cousin, and a gorilla named after another animal, and crossover fighting game characters can all fight each other.

A Galaxy Note 4 was my first phone (hand-me-down from my dad) at 12 or so. I hated it due to the bloatware on it, but if I knew about lineageOS/custom ROMs back then it would’ve been a blast. I definitely remember my mom replacing the battery on it, due to previous use and me accidentally dropping it in water it gave out, but my mom popped a new one in like a piece of cake 🥹

I really do miss that stylus, would probably slap for DS emulation (although I have a hacked 3DS anyway 😅) and drawing…

Huh, maybe it is me using Lawnchair. I am using up-to-date GrapheneOS on a Pixel 8a and have noticed that my navigator buttons will just have a stroke at random times throughout the day, and it is annoying. I use lawnchair so I can apply icon packs. Haven’t tested the base launcher yet.

I never got super info their videos, but I think the DreamSMP would count as the roleplayer category. Honestly, when I think about my childhood Minecraft YT channels, Aphmau was the main creator of RPG-like “tell’s a story though Minecraft” content (MC Diaries, MyStreet, Dreams of Estorra [RIP 😭], etc ).

Anyway yeah, there’s a subcategory of people who I think like to roleplay in their games and make a creative, original story out of it. I think another modern example would be the Your Average Hylian, a channel that makes silly content focusing around LoZ, like “What Hyrulean ads would be like” or “Hyrule Cooking Show Parody

Oh man, the moment I clicked on this thread, Trails came into mind. Now, I myself haven’t played it, but my mother is close to finishing Kevin’s game, and we were peeking at the the next few games and the most recent one to be released. And man, I don’t even know if I wanna play this series anymore.

The anime tropes we saw and read about from people’s reviews are killing us, and me and my mom fucking love anime. Hell, she’s a shonen-anime lover through and through. But the way the older characters like Agate get yassified into looking like generic anime guy #1 with red hair and Zin into slightly less generic anime guy #2 kills me, these dudes should not look like college kids 😭

The shitty romance that they’re hinting between Agate and Tita is 🤢. I really wish they had kept them as a sibling dynamic, and I thought Tita’s mom was freaking out because she thought he was a pervert, not that he actually liked her…

Also found out about the adopted siblings from TS:CS that seem to like each other, which is creepier than Estelle x Joshua because this pair was raised together since they were literal toddlers unlike the original two… God Japan’s not-by-blood adopt a son to marry thing kills me. The adopt a son to marry is fine if the girl wasn’t raised with him or like, they’re 20 years old. But this, “we literally were raised like siblings” thing kills me sometimes.

But yeah the egregious fan service, flanderization, and overall lack of seriousness that we saw from some of the newer games made me be like “maybe I won’t pick this game up,” which is a shame. I’m really disappointed to hear about the anime gender tropes stuff…

Figured lol, he’s the usual culprit for any cute gijinka of a current trend.

Is this Merryweathery? I swear he’s always the one doing these gijinkas (Internet Explorer-chan, Twitter-chan, Switch-chan, etc.)

Edit: Just me or does Mastercard-chan have a bulge? Cause like… yes please…

TLDR: I probably wouldn’t suggest playing 3 unless you’re willing to play/watch the side games. The conclusion will not hit hard at all if you didn’t play the side games.

I literally just played through all the games (besides Re:coded, watched it) and I have conflicting feelings about it. Storyline wise, I didn’t love or hate it, as some parts were really nice and heartwarming to see (I really loved the reunion of the other two trios) and certain worlds are nice to meet your fave characters (Toy Box my beloved). But the main plot feels both satisfying and meh. I watched the fandub of union x and got really excited to see the lore be teased more in 3, but because 3 tries to appease everyone (crowd who played all the games vs crowd who only played 1 & 2), they don’t get to dive as deep as I wanted. I am more willing to ignore some of the bs and laugh rather than cringe, but I do understand why many find the plot corny.

The combat… I’ve basically hated the combat in every KH game, BBS is the only one where scrolling through the skill menu didn’t feel like ass, meanwhile DDD executes flowmotion beautifully (while it feels useless in 3), and yet CoM had my favorite system overall (might be my favorite game honestly). 3 controls are far better than KH 1, but the actual difficulty is non-existent and makes blocking feel almost useless. The attraction attacks are there I guess (my mom liked them lol). KH 1 normal mode had me near tears (Even the fucking Traverse Town Armor), CoM was frustrating but satisfying, 2 was boring besides the impossible super bosses, all of 358/2 was just awful overall, BBS was very normal until final boss, and DDD was slightly frustrating but beating the final boss was satisfying. 3 was a snooze fest besides final bosses that just made me go, “oh, I guess I won. I kinda just mashed x.”

IDK, I’ve had a KH shaped hole in my heart over these past two days, wondering what I want to play now that I got through my 2 month marathon. I both miss the games but also acknowledge that they get very repetitive and tiring over time. My mom only played 1,2 & 3 and has basically said KH and Square are dead to her.

CoM, BBS, and DDD are a must to watch/play. 358/2 is only worth it if you like challenge missions (I skipped them, hated the gameplay), Fragmentary Passage is only on the 2.8 disc and is literally 4-5 hrs, and Re:coded is supposedly good gameplay but the plot is just “what if data simulation Riku and Sora went through KH 1 together?” And Union X is gonna be vital to watch for those preparing for KH 4.

I definitely haven’t done mega deep dive on OnlyOffice, but I think there’s not much concern about their ties to Russia. I don’t think people have found them phoning home to anything suspicious.

My mom really though the Plateau was gonna be the entire game lol. When the game gave her a paraglider she was like “oh there’s gonna be more?”

Ah yes, the one Nintendo IP that has gone to shit. Not fully by the way, as Legends Arceus was fantastic, and even my mom who hasn’t given a fuck about Pokemon since Yellow loved watching me play it. If Gamefreak would finally make another side game like Mystery Dungeon (or the more forgotten cult classics like Pokepark, Ranger, Conquest, Rumble, etc.) we wouldn’t be trolling them so hard. It’s also more of a Gamefreak problem than anything, as other companies that did Pokemon games (Chunsoft, Genius Sonority, etc.) did fantastic.

Anyway Zelda and Mario are still making bangers, Kirby Air Riders is coming back, Metroid fans are fed, Splatoon is getting a whole new game for Switch 2 (fuck me…), people are still relatively happy with Animal Crossing NH, we’ll see how Donkey Kong’s new game does, and while FE’s newest entry wasn’t so hot you can’t ignore how Three Houses brought in a brand new wave of loyal FE fans.

Literally everyone knows Pokemon mainline has been going to shit (and not the characters, designs, music, etc. imo, just the animations and story writing). Pick another game, even Nintendo (and Pokemon) fans make fun of it.

I was just about to say same, and go enable Japanese again to see it do it, but then I realized I had Japanese enable this whole time and it stopped doing it like it used to.

But I used to swipe down from the top and the quick menu would be in Japanese for no fucking reason 💀 (although some buttons were in Eng?)

IDK why it stopped doing that, maybe new updates fixed it. I’m on Pixel 8a and using the most current Graphene stable update.

The DS had plenty of fantastic games, but when it comes to a game I feel had the most beautiful example of using the controls in a creative way, I’d say The World Ends With You takes the cake.

I’ve literally never played a game that needed such a high degree of multitasking, not just for mental multitasking, but also hand-eye coordination. Playing that game on Hard mode felt crazy, and I literally never unlocked Master mode. Balancing between the top and bottom screen characters was such a challenge, especially if you’re actually trying to make use of the green puck for more damage. The fact that each partner has their own battle method is fantastic too, as you never get too comfortable with one character until you finish the game.

Add in fantastic art design, catchy soundtrack, funny & memorable main cast, and you get absolute peak. I can’t believe Square let that game rot for more than a decade. The Neo TWEWY sequel was pretty good too, but nothing will literally ever compare to the original’s controls. It’s just so addicting man.

Man the soundtrack alone could get me to play Katamari games. I got a birthday gift card recently and was deciding what game to get, when one of the OSTs came up on YT Music and I listened to it for like a week straight. Immediately got We ❤️ Katamari + DLC on 80% sale.

Could scream that shit in my car honestly.

Yeah the Nintendo vitriol for the past month has been funny. I get it, companies are not our friends, and Nintendo has done a lot of shit to be mad at. The game keycards are dogwater, but this concept of buy cartridge and download the rest is not new. Sony and Xbox have literally done the same shit for years, and Nintendo did this with some large games on Switch 1.

Another comment showed Sony will brick hacked consoles that get on the internet. Switch 1 also does this.

The price sucks, but it’s definitely tariffs, since the console is like a whole hundred dollars cheaper in Japan.

If you wanna pirate/emulate, pirate/emulate. I just don’t like pirating current gen consoles, and it’s a hassle to do so on Switch 1 if you got a newer one. Plus switch emulation on steam deck seems to be iffy for some games… I pirate/emulate old consoles cause they’re dead and they’re not making money on them anyway. Sometimes you just want to buy a game and enjoy them, especially for online ones like Splatoon.

I’ll just wait for the price to be reasonable one day.

My ass repeatedly reset games I had beaten or got close to beating, especially if I was stuck. I was especially guilty of this with Pokemon games, where I would just reset if I couldn’t get past a certain point (didn’t find the strength TM in BW so couldn’t fight Team Plasma), I beat PMD Gates to Infinity like 4 times lol. I grinded so hard on Platinum Victory Road in an attempt to beat the elite 4, that I found my first ever shiny from ruining the local Rydon population.

I’m far too tired to do that shit now, I felt depressed going from Octopath I to Octopath II because I have to grind again and I’m broke 😅

Gonna add Kingdom Hearts to this (cause Sqenix), because I was playing 1 as a preteen, beat Cerebus, got in the Gummi ship, and promptly got lost on where to go after. Bonus for stopping the game for months, picking up again, and being lost so I just never beat it. I plan to finish KH1 this summer after beating Metaphor Re:Fantazio, but I probably will reset to get that full experience factor 😅

Ugh. Thank you, I was just about to say it myself. There’s been politics in games for forever. Even the simplest shit like, “environmental destruction bad, so Sonic fight Eggman”

People are just too dumb to realize that they were kids back then…

Bro how is this the way I find out there’s a Switch Direct, and that there’s a new Rhythm Heaven, AND a new Tomodachi Life??? Next year is gonna be so fucking peak holy shit 😭🥹😩

I’m young and even this has me gagging. Our Switch games definitely don’t look like that, although I do feel box art and blurbs on the back used to entice me more, but maybe that’s just because I’m not a kid anymore. But yeah this is fucking horrendous to look at 🤢
