It was worth it.

Subsistence release: “ermahgerd garbage, go play original.”

HD collection release: “ermahgerd garbage, go play subsistence.”

Master collection release: “ermahgerd garbage, go play HD.”

Delta release: “ermahgerd garbage, go play master collection.”

To be fair, the first one I’m assuming. But the HD and Master Collection bitching I personally watched go down. Gamers are never happy and it’s always sliding. Delta will be seen as wonderful by the time the next whatever is released.

I have played every release of this game out there. I even played it on Vita. I played the original around when it released.

I even saw the Master Collection issues and dealt with that.

This is a pretty damn good release. I’m having a lot of fun. I mean I pre-ordered the game at a discount too like you can for a lot of games though. For what it is, they did a pretty fucking good job and I’ve been having a blast. I also don’t preorder much ever cause most initial releases for lots of games are horrible.

There are some downsides, but they’re more just getting over aesthetic choices and some control clunkyness due to it being so different than before. It’s nothing dealbreaking, and it’s not an embarrassment. As a massive fan of the series, I will note there are insane nuances that were kept intact that blow me away. Especially character behaviors and cutscenes are incredible to see like this as compared to the originals.

They also said they HAD to improve this release over the buggy release the Master Collection was. They did that. Its been mostly pretty smooth. Minor tinkering to get the graphics dialed in on Linux with proton GE, but aside from that. It’s been great.

I wish they’d not used UE5, but it is what it is and they did decent with it. The Master Collection support we saw also suggests this will only improve with support.

I rarely get games on launch, but you can often get these at a discount on sites like Fanatical months before release. They definitely had the deluxe edition like 20% off months ago to pre-order.

I read this as shortening development time (“quicker”), not necessarily reducing the sheer amount of slop they pile in and call “content.”

This is absolutely c-suites pushing for constant development to be a smoother, faster repetition; lots of DLC, or SaaS.

My hatred for other humans, especially in their online multiplayer behavior, faaaaar outweighs what you brought up.

What helps solve all of this is not playing online hype games. Single player ftw.

It came out like 3 months after Skyrim, while I was waiting for their patches to fix its game-breaking bugs.

Kingdoms of Amalur was better and released almost the same time and wasn’t a buggy disaster.

No. It doesn’t. I’ve read lots of articles implying the rate of adoption was slow, and most ps5 owners were just playing a lot of ps4 games for a long time.

It was shocking to me how little I cared. After like 4 years I own maybe 3 PS5 games and finished none of them.

I am a huge fan of the original. It did not take long for the trailer to seem like a Horizon game, and then it was clear it was a watered down ripoff. Agreed the similarities are way too obvious.

In the trailer there’s clearly some new things and different creatures Horizon doesn’t have, but the stylistic nature of it all is so damn similar.

So it requires the effort and capability to go to a place that happens to have those cards. In some areas, that is more difficult and unlikely than others, and can be more difficult for the less financially fortunate.

Thus there’s added utility cost to the person when otherwise the existing digital payment model would be more accessible.

i.e. it’s a regressive solution and less ideal.

I liken it to the utility or economic tax that is attempting to vote in some areas where they make it more difficult to actually do it.

AoE III was excellent. It explored new ideas and did it well. As a long time AoE fan who played all of them since the first, AoE II is massively overhyped, and AoE III is unfairly shit on.

Also they were voluntold to do Halo Wars, and they did a good job on it. It’s a good game, and it did an excellent job on console with a controller scheme, which was impressive at the time.

Ensemble got shafted. They were held up at the time as the leaders of RTS and Microsoft didn’t give a fuck. Just used and abused.

AoE online was clearly executive suite demands. Of course it fucking sucked.

They’re really good at killing them though. I’ll never forgive the death of Ensemble.
