I loved that game. Might be interesting to try again. Man, Myst seemed so revolutionary at the time and I sure loved the concept of there being no instructions, you’re just plunked down in a world and figure out that there’s stuff going on.

That’s a fair point, but (1) Apple is still huge globally, with them and Samsung dwarfing everyone else and (2) Google doesn’t operate in China, and probably some other countries, so the total global market isn’t relevant either.

I’m not sure you get what I’m saying. 56% of smartphones are Apples. The next biggest is Samsung, with just 26%. Next is Motorola with just 4%. Add all the Android phones together and the number doesn’t come close to the number of Apple phones. So yeah, it makes sense that Google is going to give a bigger incentive to a company that is going to drive more traffic by far than any other.

Isn’t that partly because Apple is one big company, but “Android” isn’t? The number of Android phones rivals Apple, but they’re made be a bunch of different companies, with Samsung selling the most.

Most journalism is pretty bad now - if you know about tech, you’re just going to notice it more.

Everyone hopped onto ad blockers, and ads were how most online publications made money. Many have tried to switch to subscription, but few successfully, and most people side step that. Journalists are going to work for free, so now publications trip to get the most articles out of the fewest writers, and it’s all going to shit.

It started when unlimited plans first became a thing. Prior to that, you paid for a specific amount of data up to a cap, then paid a premium if you went over, so they didn’t care how you used it. When US companies first started offering unlimited plans, they excluded teathering, or added an extra charge for it, because you can use so much more data that way. Many companies have dropped that - I know my Verizon plan let’s me teather - but some still have it.

After a long line of Samsung phones, I decided to try a pixel at my last change, so got the 6. I’ve been really happy with it. Performance is good, camera and camera software are great, features are nice. The Samsungs were getting pretty bloated in comparison.
