I don’t feel there are too many games, because I can simply buy fewer games, but I do miss the feeling that there are games that everyone is buying and we’re all playing at the same time. I felt like everyone I knew was playing BG3 and we were all talking about it all the time. I don’t want to only play those kinds of big, blockbuster games, but I do want a few of them per year.

40 or so. I have shirts for my MLS (Sounders), NWSL (Reign), USLC (rip San Diego Loyal), USL1 (Madison), USL2 (Ballard) and national team (usa) sides. You’re definitely right that prices are getting exorbitant – I am probably going to have to sell some.

> The figure also smashed the previous record set in 2019 by more than $2bn, with English clubs spending the most with a new high of $2.96bn while four countries' associations received more than $1bn in transfer fees in 2023.

I caught up on AFCON this weekend. I’m a Sounders fan, so I watched both of Cameroon’s matches so far, plus a couple of random matches. AFCON is absolute chaos, and so much fun! I’d highly recommend checking it out.

This DLC sounds INCREDIBLE. When does it hit ps5?

I’m replaying Outer Worlds. Gonna replay once on normal, then I think I’m going to try it on supernova.

Interesting. I don’t think the American protectorates, like American Samoa and the US Virgin Islands, participate in the USOC. Just lack of interest and funding, maybe?

There’s also two nwsl games for the Challenge Cup! Come discuss them in [email protected]

So, one of the activities I found fun during the last World Cup was making a “tier list” of how attractive each player on the USMNT is

Would such an activity be appropriate for the women, or is the patriarchy/sexism too strong for this to be palatable?

That doesn’t sound like the wrong way to play at all! 😁

I’ve tried 10-15 times to finish it on hardcore mode. The most recent time, ::: I was killed by a warper bringing up my last load from the lost river trying to finish the rocket ::: and I literally can’t any more.

I’m sure there’s better ways, but when I’ve done it I’ve just made a screen recording, like with QuickTime or whatever.

Work scheduled me for a meeting I can’t skip during the USWNT-Netherlands match 😭😭😭

I’ve been traveling and haven’t been able to watch many matches – only Norway-New Zealand and USA-Vietnam. I’m going to get home tonight and I have all the games taped. Which match should I watch first?

I’m definitely watching the World Cup – I just got back from the pub where I was watching New Zealand beat Norway. I’ve been trying to get [email protected] going for the World Cup so that people who want to talk about it have a space that’s dedicated to the tournament, so if you wanna come hang out over there as well, it might be fun!

I’m gonna stay up late for the uswnt matches, and watch the rest on tape-delay

I’m embarrassed by how long it took me to figure out Al-Ahli and Al Ahly are two totally different teams.

Gender Bias in Perceived Quality. An Experiment with Elite Soccer Performance
> We perform an experiment showing participants video clips of elite female and male soccer players. In the control group, participants evaluated normal videos where the gender of the players was clear to see. In the treatment group, participants evaluated the same videos but with gender obscured by blurring. We find that participants only rated men’s videos higher when they knew they were watching men. When they didn’t know who they were watching, ratings for female and male athletes did not differ significantly. The findings are consistent with the interpretation that gender bias plays a role in the evaluation of athletic performance.

I had never heard of this game before, but I bought it on your recommendation. Wish me luck!

You have my taste in games dialed in. I LOVED This War Of Mine, and I loved the expansion that added children. I liked most of the characters, but for whatever reason Marko was always my favorite, and I could not stand Bruno. Honestly, I think I’m gonna go boot that up again and get ruined emotionally by the supermarket event again.

The article focuses on the coach, but it has a couple of quotes: > “We have less days than a college preseason to get ready for the World Cup. It blows my mind because we’ve known this since last year that we had qualified. The hard part is, we are supposed to have camp in Nigeria for about 10-12 days, then go directly to Australia to finish up with another 10-15 days. For what ever it is, the Federation canceled the camp.” > In the past week, players said they would consider boycotting the match against Canada if they were not given their payments. The players have not been fully paid in two years. Disappointing to see the Nigerian federation behave this way.

Yeah. MLS and USL are very different entities. They used to be much more entangled when the MLS reserve sides played in USLC, but now with MLSNP, there’s basically no connection. I wouldn’t be surprised to see MLS implement pro/rel from an MLS1 <-> MLS2 once the league gets to 40 teams, but I think it’s gonna take intervention from an outside party like FIFA to force pro/rel between USL and MLS.

Honestly, the Prem seems like a boring way to do sports to me. You play 38 games and then Man City wins it. The enforced parity of American leagues means you can’t have a story like Leicesters, because all of the teams are roughly equal quality, so it’s not a huge surprise when any team wins it all. You come into every season believing your club has a real chance.

The league is mostly focused on filling the gap for college players between school years, so they only play in the summer. Ballard’s regular season this year was 5/21-7/16; if they make the final, they’ll play until early August. We had trouble in the playoffs last year because some of the players had to depart early to return to their college teams.

I have not! My impression is that it’s very heavily focused on automating things, but is there also a survival component, or is it focused on tweaking supply lines and stuff?

My understanding is that the pro/rel is only between USL1 and USLC, so my beloved Ballard FC wouldn’t be eligible for promotion. Kinda makes sense, though, since USL2 isn’t sanctioned and they only play for like, two and a half months a year, and can’t even pay real salaries, but it would whip if we made USLC!

I’ve been really into games with a good crafting system where you have to try to survive. Don’t Starve and Subnautica are the ones that have taken most of my time. I also like colony management games, like RimWorld and Oxygen Not Included
