No. This is a city builder, not cyberpunk. This is a cpu optimization problem, not a gpu one. Also, a lazy development team doesn’t add enough features for it to suffer from such major optimization problems.

Considering the original that came out 10 years ago still eats up my overclocked octocore entirely unmodded and with several DLC disabled, I’m equal parts not surprised and highly concerned. They’ll get it down eventually, but this is one of the issues that Unity always seems to have with most performance heavy simulation games, regardless of whatever tech they throw at the situation (Burst compiled multithread tasks, DOTS ECS, C#/MSIL to native, etc). The engine is just too bloated and has way too many packages by default for this type of resource intensive game.

As someone who mostly plays offline single player games, I don’t really care what they “kill” by creating new enshittified versions of things. I already cultivated a save version of the game I like, it’s installed on a pc that rarely or never goes online that you can’t access and deactivate, and since you spent my 40 bucks already as per our agreement, I’ll enjoy it whenever I want forever without your input or any future consent required from your company. Cope.

the game will be optimized eventually. if you want to wait until then, do so. me, I just want to play this. I don’t care I’ve been waiting a long time for this game, and I have a very powerful desktop PC so I don’t really care.

I am upset they do not have a native Linux build this time around, however. And I don’t care that proton has gotten good, a game like this needs to run natively to get the full experience. The first one did and Unity makes it trivially simple to export builds to other operating systems.

I want to finish reading your post but now I’m just too sad about the thought of GabeN dieing

I will say one of the things i don’t like about egs is nothing similar to steamvr, I still highly enjoy my index and want that industry to do well and refuse to invest in a store with no skin in the vr game.

also, I’m finished with windows forever and steam has native Linux support while egs needs a weird combo of wine, bottles, and lutris to be able to achieve something somewhat similar

prob a AI bot tuned to produce clickbait.

unrelated, I’d love to see premium (non mobile or ad based) gaming go through a digital Renaissance period this decade and become a mainstream part of entertainment, as movies and tv are now. Netflix could probably repair their image if they found a way to do what Google stadia could not and bring interactive entertainment to the mainstream. all the opportunity is there, with more people working from home and AI making producing premium content easier than ever.
