Algorithms are the sole reason I go for Google products :(

Unpopular opinion, but I would much prefer having gold algorithms on Lemmy as well

ReVanced is just the way to go for me. Good UI is a requirement, and sponsorblock and return YT dislike integration is a must have

Google calculating:

  • no more sideloading, so the privacy and pro freedom people will buy our phones for GrapheneOS

You can currently sideload a bit on iOS, but it’s a massive pain

I’ll worried for GrapheneOS because I know the dev doesn’t really want to implement QoL improvements or design updates, so we’re currently only relying on Google’s good will with AOSP for that, and we can’t expect much I’m afraid

Don’t get me wrong, GOS is good and all, but some nice features are bugged or getting killed. It might be worth delaying casual updates to fix those

Now we have a new threat: no more third party stores. At this point iOS would even be better, at least there’s some very limited sideloading

Sorry you’re learning this now but… you just paid through a normal card. The crypto is just sold in real time and makes up the balance

It wouldn’t help in the situation where the payment processor refuses

We need a proper KYC-less way of paying in crypto, and have games that can only be bought in crypto instead of being removed from the store

But regulating crypto is the best way to kill it. It’s a pain to have to go though KYC currently

if you don’t participate a lot, or don’t have potentially controversial opinions, it won’t happen as much and won’t be noticeable

Sadly, indeed

People paying everything by card won’t be interested anyways, and that’s a LOT of people

I’ve heard that in countries with bad economy there’s still some usage, but nothing incredible

I’ve met people who are in those types of countries and they told me they mainly hold crypto to avoid the enormous inflation of their currency, and pay with it or exchange when they want to spend it. Basically an alternative to exchanging fiat to another fiat

Sometimes it’s the opposite, bad review but positive message

Well maybe they stopped playing the game because they didn’t like it? I don’t continue to play games I dislike

Oops, my bad then, I didn’t test the feature yet, only read the blog post and thought “off topic” reviews didn’t change

Second, I’d like the toggle to disable the language filter and off-topic review filter to be separate.

Isn’t this already the case?

First, being able to give a list of languages you want to factor into the score, so it’s not just your current Steam language.

I think it currently chooses the languages you’ve allowed to see for reviews if I remember correctly, or the game languages you allowed to see

there sure are many crypto scams, but I hate people generalizing it to all cryptos

I would argue against this. I have seen more diverse rating, but 1 to 5 still isn’t really accurate

GOG also has a massive problem: you can’t edit your review once you published it

Also, you watch multiple youtube videos in a day. You play a few games or watch a few movies or series a month, and probably fewer

Even with the current thumbs up/down people get it wrong. Give it a thumbs up but write a scathing review.

I’ve never understood those reviews

lemmy.ml, blahaj.zone, lemmygrad, hexbear…

And the entire rest of lemmy is full of people crying about AI or cryptocurrency

What it’s doing is sorting reviews by language, under the idea that reviews written in the language you use are probably more relevant to you.

It already did that, but only when viewing reviews. The update just makes it so that the score ex: “overwhelmingly positive” is now only based on reviews of your language

I personally like seeing review bombing as well, it was always relevant to me, despite what Steam says

The score is useful. It could be better if Steam had a proper review system instead of just “good” or “bad”

I believe they often start in english only. This might limit the impact for non-english speakers

I feel like it’s also a way to limit review bombing, like what happened for recent games regarding privacy policy changes

I’m not a fan of it

EDIT: Did you change your comment? I think it wasn’t like this, because my answer doesn’t make sense

I know I'm late to the party but I just found out and didn't find a post regarding this TL;DR: Steam now calculates review scores based on reviews made on your languages only (if enough). This is on by default, but can be reverted to go back to review scores based on all reviews (from people that purchased the game directly on Steam only)

/e/OS is also a fork of LineageOS

alright, thanks for the recommendation

iodéOS

How does it compare to /e/OS?

I was considering it but was afraid it would be slow

Does it still seem okay?

I ruled out the google tablet due to it being too expensive with an LCD screen

I didn’t want it, but after looking at the market, I realize it’s not that bad for the price range and for my requirements. It might sadly be the only final answer

I’m also considering the Xiaomi Pad 5 with /e/OS

I care a bit less about security, no one will have direct access to the hardware except me, and there won’t be anything sensitive on it. Security updates are still important because… it would be nice not to get the entire OS fucked and joining a botnet

I don’t want to bother too much, and yea sadly I don’t care much about OS features as long as I can flash some custom OS or something. Even AOSP might do the trick because I probably won’t install proprietary stuff. Why can’t manufacturers sell tablets with a good screen and speaker, without cameras or annoying useless BS?

Considering your use case u might be able to get a standalone display and put it in a custom 3d printed case with a raspberry pi and battery. I believe their are some similar projects online that are worth checking out.

Seems interesting if well made but I would probably prefer some Android device

How do you do with Play Services? Did you install the proprietary stuff or installed MicroG (or just don’t run GPServices at all)? is it easy?

I was also worried a bit about the updates. They seem to take time and most of the stuff is community releases only. Coming from GrapheneOS, so that shocks me a bit

Looking for a privacy-respecting tablet
Hi! I'm looking for a privacy respecting Android tablet. I ruled out the google tablet due to it being too expensive with an LCD screen I would prefer a nice OLED screen if possible (or similar), and preferably cheap. Must be able to stream HEVC encoded videos (not 10 years old hardware), and preferably more (VP9, AV1, for future proofing) The main use will be to watch content (movies, series, videos) from YouTube and Jellyfin, and sometimes some other apps if they're not enforcing the Play Integrity API So far I've searched some OS and I'm considering LineageOS or /e/OS, with /e/OS looking better in terms of privacy. Don't want google to track everywhere I go and everything I do. Any recommendations for good cheap hardware with bootloader unlocking, and recommendations for a good Android ROM?

But is your intention my wording?

They made a great game from this genre, and I don’t believe I’ve ever played a cs-like game with agents

Never played LoL but I’m pretty sure that’s false

You liking other type of games doesn’t mean all other games are shit. Most games are pretty basic. I mean csgo is generic as hell and Valorant improves the genre with abilities, good map design, proper character identities, and you say they make homogenized shit?

You not liking AAA games doesn’t mean they’re shit. There’s nothing wrong with making games that stick to a genre but do it perfectly

Sure, but from what I’ve seen, this battlefield isn’t bad

But yea we know EA

Looking for a FOSS Android custom control center
cross-posted from: https://lemmybefree.net/post/650824 > I'm on GrapheneOS and I believe the default control center (AOSP) sucks, especially the two slides to change brightness > > I didn't find any Foss apps to change that, but there are many of iOS replicas on Google play which I would like but they all seem full of ads and shady
