Got permabanned from Reddit for damn near no reason. So now I’m here.

I don’t think it’s okay, but I also won’t judge people with limited resources for using it for things that they realistically can’t afford. I believe that humans should design every single aspect of any video game. Monotype has made that substantially more difficult. So, I won’t judge a studio with limited resources if they use ai for this singular aspect of their otherwise completely human creation nearly as much as I would, say, Rockstar or EA or Activision. But there’s also plenty of other ways to get a font, several people here have linked free options.

Sorry, you think that they’re suddenly going to be paying artists 50 times more as well? No, their pay is probably going to stay right where it is. Monotype executives however, are probably going to be expecting some nice bonuses. This is all assuming that Monotype pays the font artists based on how much their font sells, and not a flat rate to simply create one as a contractor of some kind. I wouldn’t know, I know very little about fonts and Monotype. Best thing that studios could do is probably commission their own font artists for a more reasonable amount to create a font for them. I guess that also depends on how much time and effort it takes artists to create a font, and how much they charge. Depending on the price, that may also be difficult to do for a smaller studio. This could all have been prevented if writing kanji in slightly different ways wasn’t something that could be copyrighted, or if Monotype hadn’t raised prices so much.

I mean, it’s not the fault of the artists, and I don’t really think this is meant to hurt them at all. They wanted to pay for the work of artists, but I also think it’s unreasonable to expect game studios to spend 50 times more than they were before, for, forgive me if I’m wrong, a worse product. Ai is obviously not preferable, and it’s not what I’d choose in this scenario, but it’s also better than feeding Monotype’s greed.

I don’t think that a single product whose price has multiplied by 50 times at once has ever been successful. Shit, even small price increases on streaming services over time cause people to resort to privacy (as we all should). 50 times at once is fucking insane. I don’t think that any reasonable developer will actually be buying this shit, because there’s always better alternatives available. This is fucking stupid.

I think some people are already compiling lists on Bluesky. Maybe it’s time for a new Steam competitor? One that isn’t going to take the art of creators off for “controversial” content. The Itch.io CEO (which I first heard about 2 days ago) said that they’re looking for more cooperative payment processors, so they might be bringing stuff back? No idea, I can hope though.

My fucking god. You may or not believe me, but for the past 7 months, I’ve been almost completely unaffected by everything going on. I’m extremely lucky in that sense. This is the first thing that has gotten close to fucking with my life. I guess that I knew something was going to happen that would affect me. It didn’t feel like something that would actually affect me. True, this is still mostly a minor inconvenience, but it’s going to expand to include every M rated or slightly creative or provocative title. We are so fucked. My god.

I haven’t played Valhalla. But it’s REALLY hard to fuck up vikings. It’s pretty pathetic if they managed to. I played most of the Assassin’s Creed games last year. I enjoyed AC3 on much more than the first few (despite preferring Ezio to Connor by a little). Black Flag was excellent imo. Unity had potential, the microtransactions being required to get full completion pissed me off. I never finished it. Syndicate was much better, but it still had at least 1 purchase of the fictional currency required to have all the collectibles visible on the map. I missed exactly 1 fragment because of that. Never got it, and I tried. I liked the rpgs a decent amount at the time, but my standards were (and are) rather low. I’ll probably buy Shadows when it goes on a 75% off sale.

15 now. There’s also… the one that was really boring. It was in like 900. In a Middle Eastern desert. I think. I couldn’t finish it lol. There’s also Shadows, which I haven’t played. People called it racist or something. The last few haven’t required any semblance of stealth, they’re kinda just open world rpgs. Odyssey was the best one from what I hear.
For example, games like Jedi Survivor. Very popular. Not an exclusive. You can play it on Xbox, Playstation, PC, whatever. If all games weren’t exclusives and could be played on anything, then the only reason to buy or not buy a console would be the console performance and company behavior. This would definitely increase game sales and availability as well.
Exclusives are a bad thing. The fact that you’re asking to be fed the same regurgitated ip slop gives them the idea that maybe, $80 games are underpriced. Maybe they can bump that up to a base $90, $100 for physical. Nintendo keeps exclusives out of greed, worse than even Sony. There shouldn’t be exclusives. Ridiculous.
I mean, they’re pretty good, but they’ve also been out for a while. I think that a lot of the people that want and can afford it have been buying it over the past couple years. Most people don’t tend to wait several years to get new consoles. I do, but even I’ve had my series s since early 2023. The tariffs can’t be helping.
