Does it really matter? You do not know how commercial software is being developed. In most cases you do not even know which language is used and AI usage is also not disclosed. You do not know this about your phone, you do not know about your appliances, you do not know how the software in your car is being made, you do not know how everything you’re using every day is being created. I’m not sure why you have other standards for open source software. And please do not tell me that you are only using open source software in your car or in the train you’re using as public transit.

And yes, there might be harm, but let’s be honest, every other company around there is doing harm to someone or the environment. And if an open source dev uses AI this is really not the fight you want to do. fight against oil companies or something like that. factory farming, the car industry, big tech and all the other industries doing real harm. Attacking the dev of Lutris is not the fight anyone should put some effort in.

I mean does it really matter? people are using his software and it is totally irrelevant how he is developing it. It doesn’t matter if he is scribbling it on paper or using VS Code or something else or an AI tool. He can develop the software as he likes. You can walz into an open source project and demand that the project has to work according to your own standards. We are not in school - in school the cheating with AI is hindering your learning progress, but if you want to use a coding agent as adult, just do it. And you don’t have to disclose it because why should you? You also don’t disclose that you are using code auto-completion or some other technology.

People shouldn’t attack FOSS devs for using AI. You might not like AI, you might not like the AI companies, but it’s crazy to attack people providing free software for how they are creating that software. This is a bad path and will only lead to devs burning out, throwing the towel, and then we have less software around. Lutris is a nice piece of software, so good for the dev. And the AI haters should just fuck off.

I really hate this new trend of FOSS developers being attacked and harassed for using AI. You might not like if they are using AI. Or you might not like AI at all, but there’s no reason to harass people who are providing you free software. Let them develop it like they want. If you don’t like that they used AI, use another software. Or fork the software before they started using AI. But attacking people like that is not okay on so many levels. It’s not okay to attack people for the software they are using. It’s not okay to attack developers providing a free service and it’s not okay to attack people at all.

Don’t bet on used hardware. Increased costs will lead to companies using their hardware longer. Higher demand for used hardware with lower supply will lead to higher prices.

There are a few areas where the clock mechanic is really, really bad:

  • If you go into the desert and try the dungeon there, you will run into the issue time running out. The bus is starting quite late and it takes time to go down the dungeon
  • That also applies the first times you go to the island
  • The community center also has this problem: You need to catch certain fish that might only be available in some seasons in some areas in certain times and you are really lost without the wiki there. And if you miss the time slot where those fish are available (or where you can grow certain crops) you need to wait another year before being able to progress.

First of all: Trading cards are also abusive as fuck. What those Magic and Pokémon people are doing is not ok.

But loot boxes can be even worse: You can built them so that they will give you not a fair chance to get an item, but some companies are doing this the more evil way. Imagine that you need some specific item to get your full set, which will give you some buff. And the company knows that you are missing only that item. And it knows that you are willing to spend money, because you have just bought a loot box. So they will manipulate your odds so that you will not get the item you want. You’ll get several other “near misses”, but they also do know how many loot boxes other players opened before giving up. That is some additional evil that printed Magic cards in Walmart can’t do to you

It’s insane how Microsoft is handling Xbox:

  • They have their own console and Windows
  • They bought everything they could and now own most of the biggest gaming franchises outside of Nintendo: Activision-Blizzard. Minecraft. Halo. Call of Duty. Warcraft. Starcraft. Diablo. Candy Crush. Elder Scrolls. Fallout. id software. Bethesda.

They have everything in place and are still getting slapped around by Valve and Sony and are now talking about shutting down everything?
