Eh. I seem to always hear about such games pretty quickly. Just maybe not as quickly as braindead executives assume.

Maybe it should be on the publisher’s shoulders to not expect a game to hit millions of concurrent players in the first week before they cancel them?

The Netflix poison goes much further than streaming services.

Still. It’s not the employee’s fault the leadership is full of absolute morons that don’t understand employment laws.

Wages are the first thing you pay if you’re not a complete shitstain of a human being for a reason.

That’s an insane exaggeration of consequences, but that game is still uniquely boring.

They aren’t lowering cart prices, so see the rest of my post as to why they’ll still be paying for their decisions.

They’re damned if they do because it’s too little too late and most of their carts are just a keyed license to the game and not the game itself anyways, which kinda’ begs the question why they’ll remain higher priced. They’re damned if they don’t because people don’t have as much disposable income as they used to and Nintendo is wonderful at not enticing anyone with new IPs these days anyways.

They’ve hoarded their wealth too long, and now they get to pay the price, one way or the other.

They don’t “learn” anything, though. They’re ‘trained’ (still a bad term but at least the industry uses it) to spit the correct answer out.

People, especially CEOs and advertising firms, need to stop anthropomorphizing them. They do not learn. They do not “know”. They have statistically derrived association and that’s it. That’s all.

Holy hell ELIZA effect is in full swing and it’s beyond sad. They don’t build the association themselves. They don’t know what the representations mean. They absolutely do not know why two words are strongly associated. It’s just a bunch of math that computes a path through that precomputed vector space. That’s it.

Even simply using the word “know” is anthropomorphising them and is wholly incorrect.

You are suffering from the ELIZA effect and it is just… sad.

Having a number that relates words to other words is not understanding words. Stop believing the hype for fuck’s sake. What they ‘know’ is NOT knowledge. They do not know anything. Period.

There is a reason they start to fail when trained on other slop; because they don’t know what any of it means!

Their ‘knowledge’ comes from the basic weights of what word is most likely to follow. Period. The importance of that weight comes from humans. It is not intrinsic knowledge even after training. It is pure association, and not association like you or I do word association.

Fully agreed with that.

In fact, such regulations really need to go a lot further and make illegal straight up unnecessary subscriptions, too. If something doesn’t need actively maintained things outside of the actual product for it to function, then it doesn’t ‘need’ a subscription model.

I mean the question got an answer, so either feeding the trolls, or popcorn moment.

… Either way I’ve got my popcorn.

Given all the fun I’ve had over the years with far less powerful systems, it’s not exactly a deathknell to gaming if it turns out that way.

It just better be the deathknell for terrible mobile game microtransaction structures and p2w schemes if mobile devices become the new norm…

“with foresight”

My brother in christ, they put an “AI” shithead in charge. They practically by definition cannot have foresight.

Gaming is in a great place. AAA gaming is not, because of-fucking-course corpos don’t understand art.
