On the other hand, the graphics can be ASCII if the gameplay and story are good enough.

Enderal brings the Skyrim Engine much closer to the Morrowind experience, for me, both in terms of story and exploration. It’s refreshing to have an open world game that’s dense and clearly hand-crafted instead of nearly empty.

I get that it’s grimdark and punishes optimism and that’s not for everyone, especially given the state of our real world right now. I’m a little bit spoiled on the ending and maybe I’ll feel differently once I’m hit with by twist with the full weight of narrative behind it.

Breath is barely a Zelda game. It’s fun, it’s great, but the magic formula is missing.

Tears goes a long way towards fixing that, and is just a better game overall. But it is a very direct sequel to Breath, and I worry that it might not make as much sense plotwise as a standalone.

Finally picked up Cassette Beasts when it went on sale and my kids and I are really enjoying it.

Those, the GBA port of Zelda ][, and Mario Land 2, but I hadn’t had the cart for ML2 in over a decade by the time I was selling the rest.

We were playing on the GBA SP, but the cart was the GameBoy original that came with my (definitely dead but I still have it) grey brick GameBoy.

I sold all my GB/A carts except that and FFTA.

Found my old GBA that I thought I’d gotten rid of because the battery was borked. Turns out the battery still works, it’s the charging light that’s borked. My 6yo saw me rocking Tetris and I let him take a crack at it. He played for two hours straight.

Dino Run

If you haven’t played Supraland yet, it’s the irreverent zeldalike you didn’t know you were craving. I’m mixed on the DLC but the main game is well worth. There’s a free demo, try it and you’ll be hooked.

It’s so good! I think my record was 7 days… but I might be misremembering and it was 17.
