I swear people downvoting here would be upvoting articles saying “finally with auto target this FPS game fixed the problem of how hard it is to spot enemies”

“finally, decent inventory management” BULLSHIT! Diablo 2 inventory management is great, what they did now is give more slots because whiny modern players CAN’T MANAGE their inventories FOR SHIT!
This loot filter though, looks great.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I see there is a lot of features that I have no use for so I never explored (controller stuff, cloudsave, social features, achievements, etc)… I guess auto updates are cool though, but I only play old games anyway :P

Why do you need a launcher? (asking older gamers actually)
I know lots of you have grown with it so that's just the way it has always been for you and you are used to it, but older gamers, why do you need a launcher? I've started PC gaming in the mid to late 90s but only when visiting cousins and friends. Got my first PC in 2001. I have some original games but I'm like 99% pirate, especially for "newer stuff" (read: anything that came out in the last 20 years lol). Modus was always the same: run the installer, click the shortcut, play. I created a Steam account sometime in the late 2010s, I remember I did because I saw they were giving Metro games for free and I wanted to play them, and I started collecting free games that looked cool, but it really really bothered me that I needed to open their store to install and play the games. Even if I made desktop shortcuts their program would run in the background, and usually complain if I was offline... I just found everything so useless... run software to run the software I want to run, why not skip the middleman? Also I have always been on shitty hardware and I didn't like that extra RAM consumption going on in the background. Eventually I stopped using Steam, deleted my account, and went back to piracy, but with the loss of some trusted trackers and stuff, and me starting running banking and other important shit on the same PC, I decided to start buying games, and then I found GOG, and what a godsend store! When I buy the game I get the installer so I can do whatever I want with it, and I don't need any third party application to install or run them. I see a lot of people saying they don't buy games from other stores because their launchers are shit... but what do you even need a launcher for? Not having a launcher is my requirement to buy a game lol

lol the downvotes

“You have to understand, most of these people are not ready to be unplugged. And many of them are so inured, so hopelessly dependent on the system, that they will fight to protect it.”

You can buy a game license on Steam. Your only access to it is through them, you can only install and play it through their store. You need to have their program running to check your license and also probing your system to see what you are running and logging your activity. If the company so decides, they can remove your access to the game because you never bought it, they only gave you a license. This market model removes player’s autonomy and keep everything locked out of players control.

Or you can buy a game on GOG. After you buy the game you don’t need GOG for anything, you have full control of the installation file and can back it up however you want and install wherever you want. You can use their launcher if you want to log your activity for social features but that’s optional. You bought the game and have your copy, publisher and distributor can fuck off forever.

Yet, people believe not owning and controlling the games you paid for is “better”…
(not knowing how games used to be, and what online stores have taken from you, is a tragedy)

Oh, the game is not available on GOG? That’s because the publisher doesn’t want consumers to have any control over the game, they want to control how, when and where you can play it, including revoking licenses if your own self-hosted private servers don’t follow the moderation rules the company wants, and if you still buy it you are just keeping this anti-consumer market model viable - just like consumers made lootboxes, pay-to-win, battle passes, single player games requiring online verification, and everything that enshitified gaming viable. Market share is no metric for service quality.

There are better things, just like modular phones are better than iPhones, but consumers are driven by propaganda and herd mentality and they don’t care the least if the product they are buying denies them autonomy. If consumers were smart, pay-to-win features and battle passes would have never become a thing.

Have you read the comics?

spoiler

Both decisions are canon

:D

The comics are nowhere as thrilling, but I quite liked it.

ps: I haven’t played Double Exposure. Up until now I didn’t even know it was about Max lol

The tragedy of making one good story is that you have to milk it until nobody cares about it anymore
