This will not only change the global power balance away from the insane Empire, it will also change global transport as we know it. Re. social media/censorship. US spends a ton of resources grooming social media platforms for ‘proper’ western/liberal content/values, and the TikTok issue - among many - are an attempt to control information on that platform also. Specially young people have via uncontrolled media, seen what happens in israel/gaza, Ukraine/Russia, and even seen how China is really like, and even become friends with them. The young people on uncontrolled media (non US sphere of interest) are - according to the US leadership - getting behind the ‘wrong’ party in masses. That made the US Plutocracy flip out and make all kinds of problems for the Chinese company (hundreds of fake rumors, tariffs/pressure, and now money to buy it. The whole shebang were rolled out for ‘National Security’, which oc is just the security of the Plutocracy - not the people…

Interesting. I just bled a Ryzen ai with 64gb 8000 Ram because I thought/learned that memory bandwidth was important, but here - with this size model, he recommends a better cpu before more ram, before ram speed. However, the price of fast ram is ridiculous, so maybe the tradeoff is okay.
Great idea, and love re-purposing stuff! Price/ram probably limit the use to always-on low-power cases. Not sure it can beat small sbc’s at their own game, so not sure where it shines - except for re-purposing wasted resources oc.

Interesting, but unfortunately, they don’t reveal the interesting part on how they are going to radiate away that amount of heat from a low working temperature of ~80+/- C. I would assume they have to concentrate the heat with heat pumps, into a very high point-temp with higher radiation efficiency. But that also cost energy and create heat, so the heat balance in space can be tricky.

You can argue that a 4090 is more of a ‘flagship’ model on the consumer market, but it could be just a typing error, and then you miss the point and the knowledge you could have learned:

So they have found a way to use a ‘off-the-shelf’ FPGA and are using it for video inference, and to me it looks like it could match a 4090(?), but who cares. With this upgrade, these standard Fpga’s are cheaper(running 24/7)/better than any consumer Nvidia GPU up to at least 3090/4090.

Alternative idea for the adventurous lot - or extreme self-hosters: Buy an old Xeon datacenter server with 1.5tb ddr3 ram (separately). Ddr3 still costs around a dollar pr gig (a month ago), so this rig with two xeon and 24 * 64gb ddr3 ram will cost ~1900$ + transport: ~2k.
(OR an older pc motherboard with 4*64 channels or similar)
DDR3 is a bit slower, use more power, and the server is big/noisy, but the difference in price is unbeatable, and it’s a hell of a KVcache (for ai) if you put a gpu in it.
Note though, that power expenses are going up in the West.
