
I think I’ll always grieve the loss of Miiverse and Streetpass.
I’ll never forget the first time I took my 3DS to a nerdy convention and my green light just FIRED up! (Like a …. Green flame 😅)
I’m glad though that we can now at least use Pretendo. Those guys did an amazing job of recreating the community feel!

Everybody who was passionate about games have left and been replaced by money-grabbing opportunists who only want to inflate the stock value, bail out and get their severance pay.
I don’t have links to it at the moment (I’m prepping dinner… so excuse the laziness 😅) but if you search “D&D controversy” or “OGL” you’ll find plenty of discussions and analysis.
In short: they tried (but are still attempting to) bring micro-transactions and loot box mechanics to tabletop games.

Just to add to that answer, I’d the biggest difference is the grim powerlessness. The players can barely delay the inevitable and most will probably die in the process.
There are way more skills aimed at investigations, and the goal are often more aimed towards a McGuffin that solves the issues, or sometimes the goal is simply to just be able to leave in one piece and hope someone else cleans the mess 😅. (There’s actually a fan story adapted into a RPG called « Delta Green » where you play a secret military tasked with dealing with mythos threats)
As D&D is the epic hero’s journey where Gandalf saves everyone at the last minute, CoC is the horror thriller where the protagonist dies, only a rando side character survives and walks off screen as the dead monster opens its eyes again just before cutting to black.
Pokémon Team Rocket edition has been my “eye opening” moment on what romhacks can offer.
