If you don’t think Apple is profiting off your data for advertising, I have a bridge to sell you

I honestly haven’t even felt the need to root my phone, let alone install a custom rom, for the past 10 or so years. Uninstall all the crap with ADB, toggle on Sensors Off from the hot bar, and don’t worry about it.

Lack of updates isn’t a killer as much as you think. I’m intentionally running a 5 year old version of Android (11) and never once have any security issues. The best defense is being smart about your usage no matter how old your software is.

You’d think after the 3rd fried steamdeck they’d look to see if the problem is elsewhere

MMORPGs may not be the butt of South Park jokes anymore, but that doesn’t mean that they’re dead. They’re more diversified… Like others mentioned, other games are quietly stealing the thunder. Also, if you think about it, battle royale games are kinda MMOs with how many people are in the lobby, and games like Roblox and Minecraft can have players interact with large numbers of others

Legit question: for the average person, why would this matter? Like congrats copper, you can see my text messages to my mom, and my receipts in my email, and my pictures of my pets. If someone’s actually doing crime, then a password should be the least of their security measures.

I’m in the same boat as you and it drives me up a wall. I’ve found a solution and love getting 2-day battery life out of my 5 year old phone.

I swear by Greenify and use it religiously. It programmatically force-closes all of your apps that you don’t use, so that they don’t send broadcasts to each other like the other comments mentioned. There are only system apps running on my phone at all times, unless I specifically open other ones.

With “sensors off” toggled on, no GPS or auto-rotate, the only thing that triggers apps to open is changing networks or receiving a notification.

Legitimately, where did you see that Android isn’t profitable?

Good choice, GW2 is a fantastic game. It’s not perfect, but the general community is pretty good and there is A LOT of content for your money

There’s an Android app called “SleepTimer” that works with basically any app

If something isn’t popular enough to get people to develop custom software for it, then there won’t magically exist custom software for it. Just buy something that already has rom support

I think it’s hilariously naïve. The comments will be scraped anyway, and there’s nothing you can do about it

I like to use folders in my app drawer to organize them, maybe it’s something you can try? I run an old version of Nova before they got bought out

Does anyone know the last version that didn’t do this?

Edit: trying messages.android_20240123_01_RC04, we’ll see if it works

Edit 2: for posterity, no that version also bugs you to update. The search continues.

Why not another app, such as one that offers end to end encryption?

I disabled the recommended section cuz I expected this exact situation, not surprised at all

I use RadarNow! for my radar, it’s old school but so am I. Doesn’t show chance of rain but that’s a quick Google away anyway

Why do we need a server to handle notifications anyway? Why isn’t it local to the device?

Just like all other subjects in life, you’ll be a lot happier if you stay away from news and tabloids

Don’t worry man I’m with you on that one. Android 12 is a downgrade from 11 IMO

Otterbox used to make really good products, but they’re just riding on brand recognition now with mediocre quality

Good thing I don’t update for this exact reason. I hate when things break through no fault of my own

So banking apps are worthless, got it 👍
