The really high tech nonces have starting using TLS

I’m aware those referenced in the article are almost certainly not doing this, but for clarity’s sake SimpleX can be self hosted.

Never noticed, but that is actually insane. I would prefer it to match my phone’s current theme, surely they’ll add that eventually.

As far as I can tell, I can rotate the feed screens to landscape AND rotates if I turn my phone (Pixel 6) 𝛑.

Might’ve changed in the last week or something, check if you need an update!

Best way I know of is to share them to Grayjay, and then add it to Grayjay one by one. I don’t think there’s a way of exporting them quicker than that.

If you mean disable it entirely, I don’t get that warning at alli

PSA: Grayjay is really good
Saw Louis Rossmans original video on the app and figured (and it may well have been) it would be buggy and awful at that point. Decided to gike it a try, the app has all the options I could want for watching youtube, it's multiplatform to a much greater degree than Newpipe and it's forks. The reason I don't ever expect to go back to Newpipe or Libretube is the plugins update through the app, meaning I can get bypasses to YouTubes bullshit as fast as they're developed. Newpipe is usually updated quickly, but in my experience forks like Tubular that include sponsorblocks often delay me from getting that update. Overall, very good experience so far!

And this feature was implemented into an OS you have to pay for. 💀💀💀

THANK YOU for this post, just replaced my dialer, contacts, gallery, and clock.

AFAIK there are alternatives no that work.

Although I have no use for storing chat history, SimpleX Chat has an (encrypted) database export feature that should, as far as I know, let you keep your chat history forever so long as you back it up.

I don’t think so, I believe it applies to any call where the decision is whether the handball was a penalty or not:

“An arm extended away from the body makes that body bigger, in an unnatural position,” explains Mike Riley, Managing Director of Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL), the referees’ body.

“If the ball strikes that arm, particularly if it is blocking a shot on goal, there is a greater likelihood we will penalise that.”

So the way I see it, his right arm was in a natural postion, so no penalty.

Seems a natural position to me, no movement to try to swat the ball or anything. I think any handball in the box when your hand is over your elbow should be a penalty, but that is not the current rule.

This is an incorrect, unrealistic way to view this. By using the Tor network normally (you argument certainly applies to doing overly traffic intensive tasks like torrenting over Tor) you are normalizing its use, protecting those who really rely on it. If the only people using Tor were criminals and people who needed the protection, listening on Wifi networks for connections to Tor could lead to immediate prosecution (look what the UK is trying to do with encrpytion, and that French case where all of the evidence against a suspect was use of open source technology like Tor.) By default, Tor does not hide the fact its being used from your network (thats what a bridge is for), so the more people use Tor, the safer everyone is.

If you really want to help those that need Tor’s protection, run Snowflake on your desktop or Orbot’s ‘kindness’ on Android. This allows users to use your device as a bridge, bypassing censorship in other countries / networks.

I dont think this article is suggesting everyone use Tor Browser as their main browser (and if they are, thats obtuse), but that people use Tor / Tor Browser at all, even for just sensitive searches or websites that dont require a login.

Well exactly, I see no way that all the self driving source code will be FOSS (I don’t think corporations would ever willingly sign onto this). So the responsible party in the case of a malfunction should therefore be the company, because in a full self driving setup the occupant is not controlling the vehicle, and has no reasonable way to ensure the safety of the code.

I disagree, I feel no matter how good the technology becomes, the odd one-in-a-million glitch that kills someone is not preferable to me over the accidents caused by humans. (Even if we assume the self driving cars crash at a lesser rate than human drivers).

The less augmentation past lane assist and automated braking the better IMO. I definitely disagree with a capped speed limit built into the vehicle, that should never be limited less than what could melt engine components or something (and even that would be take time to turn on). The detriments that system would cause when it malfunctions far outweigh the benefits it would bring to safety.

I see it the same way, but an incredible amount of people I’ve discussed this with say that its stupid to hold back technological innovation “like self-driving cars”. Its an unnecessary piece of technology.

I also just think the whole ethical complication is fucked. The way we have it now, every driver is responsible for their actions and no driver ever glitches out on the freeway (and if they do, they bear the consequences). Imagine a man’s wife and kids getting killed by a drunk driver vs a self-driving car. In one scenario you can clearly place blame, and take action in a much more meaningful way than just suing a car manufacturer.

Bill the manufacturer 100%, IMO. Thats why I think self driving cars beg an unanswerable legal question, as when the car drives for you, why would you be at fault? How will businesses survive if they have to take full accountability for accidents caused by self-driving cars?

I think its almost always pointless to hold back innovation, but in this case I think a full ban on self driving cars would be a great move.

Ah, that seems awesome! Im assuming that is unavailable in the States?

What do you mean by ‘USB TAN generator’? I don’t think I’m familiar.

The UK is really trying to ban math LMAO. The human race is fucking doomed if this nothing-burger legislation keeps getting focused on by politicians.

I recommend using a YubiKey on your Proton account if you want a strong second factor thats a bit easier to manage than a key file. If you use all or most of Proton’s apps, might be worth looking into.

I dont know what you mean by KeePass being partially Windows only, as KeePass clients exist on MacOS, Linux, iOS and Android.

If you’re willing to use a cloud-based solution, why do you have trepidation about Bitwarden (open source, great track record, standalone service) and not Proton Pass (also open source, and Proton has a great reputation for account security, but adding your password database to the same account you use for email, drive, vpn, and calendar, which is putting all your eggs in one basket IMO.

If you have trepidation trusting the security of your passwords to someone else, use KeePass.

I disagree, at least in terms of open source solutions. Assuming Bitwarden isn’t altering their server implementation without telling anyone, it is basically impossible for them to be hacked in the way you’re thinking, as the servers do not hold any decrypted vault data. If the service is propreitary, you cannot trust that they are encrypting all contents before reaching their server.

Even a full plaintext master database password breach shouldn’t affect a competant user, as you should obviously be using 2FA with a cloud password manager.

And even if your master password and bitwarden 2fa leaked and someone gained access to your vault, any accounts with 2FA enabled (so long as you aren’t keeping 2FA keys in Bitwarden, please dont do that. [The same applies to KeePass]) can’t be compromised without your second factor.

It is an absolute necessity if you use a computer. If you dont have a password manager your accounts are not secure, unless you can memorize randomized passwords. I personally don’t like the idea of my most sensitive file (password database), being on someone elses computer. I use KeePassXC to mitigate this, but if you want cloud sync I recommend Bitwarden.

I’m pretty sure within the last decade France made it illegal to wear head coverings (with no exception for religious articles like hijabs) in school buildings. I could be mistaken, but I remember thinking that was extreme to the point of racist policy.

Also important to remember on GrapheneOS is that your google play services are

  1. Optional
  2. Sandboxed Meaning even if you need google play, it’s a more private experience than stock android. I personally use a separate user profile for apps that require google play services.
