IGN put out a first preview video of Arc Raiders couple months ago and it was borderline hit piece. The quality of the video was unbelievably bad. They made the game look muddy, dated, and choppy. This wasn’t IGN trying to showcase the game on some realistic typical gaming hardware. In reality the game is well optimized and visually really good on moderate level hardware. I hear the game looks fantastic on consoles. Maybe they’ll do a full review now that the game is finally released but I question the journalistic integrity of IGN.

This guy will get tons of flak and maybe even death treats for criticizing Valve. For whatever reason there is a rabid cult like following for Valve and Gabe Newell. I remember several years ago I said something like “Valve is still a company that’s out to make money at the end of the day” and several of my gaming friends instantly were no longer friends. It’s quite hilarious for me to just think about that even today.

Raising the price of hardware twice since May and now raising the price of game pass by 50% is not something a company would do if they’re interested in competing against Sony or Nintendo. Clearly Microsoft has thrown in the towel on XBOX. Only thing left for Microsoft to do is announce cancellation of next gen console altogether and do layoffs. I don’t know when that will happen but it’s inevitable at this point.

50% price hike means Microsoft is basically betting that less than 1/3 of the current subscribers will cancel. Microsoft is also betting that some will not cancel but just downgrade to lower tier instead. If more than 2/3 of the subscriber remain a subscriber then Microsoft will come out ahead.

At one time XBOX fanbase were so desperate to play games like Halo and Gears of War that they were wrapping their dead XBOX 360 in a towel and putting it in an oven to resurrect it. That sounds so insane but it actually happened. Fast forward to now, Microsoft has raised hardware prices twice since May and now raising price of their game pass by 50%. Clearly they’re no longer interested in increasing XBOX market share or even retaining it. They’ve pivoted their strategy to milk their current XBOX fans as much money as they can until the brand is completely dead.

We already have a large cult/religion that started out with an author and a book so I can definitely see another one forming from some guy and a video game.

Seems like Bungie is a raging dumpster fire at the moment. CEO responsible for current state of Bungie just bailed when his stock options became vested. The person leading the studio now is the infamous GDC “beware of overdelivery” guy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p6HqAhabFBA

People keep saying $32k was stolen by malware. No, that did not happen. Malware did not reach into someone’s bank account and withdrew $32k. Here is a simple fact. Crypto is not money. If your brain says something like “it works just like money, or it’s worth just as much as money so it’s basically money” then you’re most likely to get scammed at sometime in the future by putting your actual real money into crypto. It’s that simple.

Microsoft spent billions on XBOX brand over over the past 23+ years but seems like they’re just done with it. They must know raising the price for the second time will be a final nail in the XBOX coffin. Is there a plan for a next XBOX? Does it even make sense to make the next XBOX? Is there even a reason for anyone to buy the next XBOX? Currently Microsoft’s marketing message is basically just spend $400 to $800 on a hardware and then pay $10 to $20 monthly ($120 to $240 a year) indefinitely for access to games but if you stop paying the monthly fee, you have an expensive paperweight because you own nothing. Oh and game pass price could go up at anytime over the lifespan of the console.

I was watching a streamer playing this game on AMD 9800X3D with RTX 5090 GPU on 1440p and was barely able to get 100 fps. All the settings were on medium with DLSS Balanced turned on. This game is definitely not optimized.

I was planning on picking up B4 when the GOTY edition goes on sale for $20-30 couple years from now. I figured performance issues will be solved by then. Now I think I’ll pass.

Game pass business model needs to fail because if it succeed we’ll be buried in post capitalism dystopian reality where we don’t own anything.

Yeah. Similar sentiment here. For me, spending $20 is my special way of flipping the bird at Nintendo and every other greedy AAA studios for wanting to jack up the price of games.

Extraction shooter market is getting crowded quick. It’s probably wise move by Tarkov devs to bank some money before Arc Raiders comes out on October 30th. I have a feeling Arc Raiders just might dominate the extraction shooter market for broad general audience. I’m sure more hardcore extraction shooter fans will stick with Tarkov but I don’t see Tarkov will appeal to the masses. I hear developers of The Division might be working on an extraction shooter too. It’s quite ironic since they accidentally stumbled onto the extraction shooter idea and just now figured out there may be a demand for the genre. There is Marathon but I have no idea what’s going on with that game. I’m not sure if Bungie or Sony knows what will happen to that game.

If game developers don’t think their product is valuable enough to be preserved, why should I think it’s worth money and buy it?

I just find this odd. They’re working for a large corporation and demanding that it should have some moral standards? Are they not self aware? Corporations exist to make money without consideration for pesky things like ethics. That’s like working at a steak restaurant and then suddenly making a big fuss about how killing animals is bad.

I remember the exact moment when death of XBOX console basically started. It was XBOX One announcement where Don Mattrick messed up the rollout so bad no one knew how their always online DRM system worked. Sony made this video in response. Also there is this disaster of an interview where he said gamers should buy XBOX 360 if you can’t be online 24/7. Microsoft basically took it for granted that gamers were in their pocket and they could focus on dominating the livingroom by adding tv related features that gamers didn’t care about. Also Kinect was initially mandatory which made the console $100 more than PS4. XBOX lost console marketshare and they never recovered since then.

This is fourth time a confirmed plagiarism occurred at Bungie in recent years. There is also an ongoing lawsuit over accusation of Red War story theft. This isn’t some lone rogue employee issue. It’s a company culture issue originating from the top. I think Sony needs to step in and clean house to address the systemic problem.

Looks like GOG servers are struggling at the moment. Claiming the game isn’t working right now.

Gaming market as a whole seems to be going through a correction of sort and this is the time when Nintendo decides to raise the price? Good luck with that Nintendo.

I along with just about everyone here probably has a massive back catalogue of games on Steam to ride out whatever is currently happening in the gaming industry. Maybe I’ll just chill over by the corner and watch the gaming market craters itself into the ground.

From what I’ve heard this game is very CPU demanding title. To get a decent performance you have to be on platform with DDR5 and lots of CPU cores. Also game very much recommends RTX 4000 series or better with frame gen turned on. If you are trying to run the game on RTX 3000 series card, you should turn on FSR frame gen. I suppose one can argue that game is not very well optimized and therefore it needs all that much hardware to run well and you’re not entirely wrong there. I think devs were too ambitious with all the graphical bells and whistles and found themselves in this situation.

Personally I don’t want to see a trend where games are only playable with frame gen turned on. We already have a situation where many games are blurry and have artifacts all over the place. I don’t want annoying lag added on top of what’s already a mess.

Damn this sucks. This game was pretty decent in the beginning. I had fun leveling couple different weapons. I bailed when they reworked the progression system to be more confusing and less rewarding. I’ve been meaning to check it out for nostalgia sake even though recent rework got a horrific reviews and now I don’t even have to bother. RIP

I used to hang out and chill on Titan whenever I was bored. Suddenly Bungie removed pretty much every content I ever purchased for the game including the god damn moon Titan. All the campaigns for base game and three DLCs I paid for were just gone. To add insult to injury they level capped the pinnacle gun I got from doing a PVP mission. Clearly Bungie doesn’t give a shit about money and time I spent on the game so I bailed. I uninstalled the game and moved on four years ago.

PSA to everyone that has never played Destiny 2.

tldr; Epic is giving away Destiny 2: Legacy Collection. You’ll have to give Bungie whole bunch more money if you really want to play. Don’t give Bungie your hard earned money because Destiny 2 is now pay to win and they’ll always try to screw you. Don’t get sucked into this game and give this horrible company your money.

According to the article, Epic is giving away Destiny 2: Legacy Collection which contains The Witch Queen, Beyond Light, and Shadowkeep. If you’ve never played Destiny 2 and think this seems great because now you can start playing Destiny 2 for the first time. This isn’t so. You’ll still need to spend bunch of more money if you want access to seasonal content and they’re really not an optional. Just when you thought you’re done, you’ll then have to buy the Dungeon content which isn’t part of season pass. Oh by the way you can’t just buy season pass with money. You have to purchase their premium currency and then buy season pass with that currency which means you’ll always have a left over premium currency. This is definitely scammy and it’s by design.

Destiny 2 is dystopian microtransaction hellscape. They’ve been adding layers of microtransactions for years and this is the result. If you want to see how bad it has gotten watch this video by Aztecross.
