Its because money men are involved. They’re not places for artisans, game studios are more like setting up a heist team to sell as many copies and produce the minimum viable product with maximum razzle dazzle to empty the marks wallet as fast as possible.
It helps that idealistic enthusiastic young people keep wanting to make games for these ghouls.
Honestly, there needs to be laws that when you buy software you get a licence to do as you please without commercial usage with it, and you get the source.
Imagine if HP had just given Stallman drivers for his printer all those years ago, what a different world it’d be now.
