There was an option, and some companies did ship a disc with the installation files. Obviously the license was tied to the Steam account and not to the disc, but if companies weren’t shipping the disc with the license, that’s their fault for cheaping out, not Steam.


He doesn’t say that they’re good quality. Just, once in a lifetime quality. Interpretation is up the reader.


You will also need to add PlayIntro=0 to the .ini file as well or the intro will crash the game. There’s one for playing at high resolutions as well and an audio dll to fix as well, but both of those are needed on Windows as well.

Edit: even then, the game crashes often in medium/late game. And the load game is a chore because it doesn’t store the last location. Overall it is a pain but I got through university this way playing on Ubuntu.


I played a lot of Civ III on Proton. I believe it was going backwards in versions of Proton runtime that fixed it.

Graphics card price tripling and game graphical fidelity is reaching diminishing returns. It’s hard to justify the money not to be able to run new games but to run them on High or Ultra instead of Low or Medium.




I love how the Gamebryo site is still up. I thought it was funny it was still up like 10 years ago when I looked last, and it’s still up now without any changes.

Slack requires payment for messages to persist over 90 days. We used to use Slack for an organization I’m part of. We moved to Discord when that was introduced which is kinda funny.
