I have an Anbernic RG35XXH and an RG34XX. I like them both; the 35 feels a bit better in my hands but I like the color of the glacier 34XX.
I’ve been using the Knulli firmware and it has been quite nice.
Eying the Ayn Thor.
But the Anbernic dual screen is also tempting. But I fear that one will be outdated faster.
I recently got a few of these. Miyoo A30, Ambernic RG 28XX and 35XXH as well as an R36s.
My advise is do your research before buying since all had issues.
Miyoo A30 has a minuscule battery life (4-6 hours) and had poor thermals (hot to touch). And while it promises PSP and DS compatibility, you’d be lucky to run basic 2d games from these systems.
R36s I got was a clone system and finding a real one is like finding a needle in a haystack. The buttons were cheap feeling and with the older processor (same as real one) it’s no better than the A30.
Anbernic systems performed the same and was the best experience… until my 35XXH tried to set itself on fire. Thankfully it didn’t and while talking to support was like talking to a chat bot. I was able to get a replacement. So far no fire.
I ordered a Steam Deck yesterday (not from Valve directly, as that’d take ages to deliver). I’ll probably use that for retro gaming.
Yeah, seems powerful enough for anything pre-HDMI at least. If it’s newer than that, I probably still have the actual hardware plugged in…
I love my miyoo mini plus!
Hear hear! Nice, compact, and I’ve put about 400 hours into mine, so that cost to time ratio is like 20cents/hr.
honestly these are all landfill. even iphones can emulate games at this point.
I bought one of the anbernic rg 351 devices 2 or 3 years ago (before I got a steam deck), and I still use it. It’s a nifty device with some cool community support for firmware and ports.
An iPhone doesn’t have buttons or a dpad for comfortable gaming. A steam deck doesn’t have the portability that these devices have. But it’s not for everyone, and could be landfill for most people.
Can’t you just get a controller case for your phone?
I’ve used 3, one that turns the phone into a switch basically, an Xbox controller with a clip adapter, and a migoo I think the brand was basically an Xbox controller with a slot.
They all sucked. The switch one was too small for my hands, probably great for kids though. No software.
Xbox had the best compatibility but it was heavy af and awkward to hold.
Same with the migoo, but also never wanted to connect to android and when it did, most controller games failed to see it, even emulators hated it.
That’s why. Too many variables when you can just get a comfortable device dedicated to emulation.
So go watch or read a review from an even semi-trusted source.
Naw im good.
You could get a laptop.
Doesnt mean it’s easy to transport.
Yup. Form factors are often overlooked. I regularly use…
… for gaming and I play a wildly different set of games on each device. It’s hard to describe why exactly, but some games just feel more “correct” when played on one device over another.
