It seems my motherboard died after five years of service. I did some testing to verify this. All my other components seem to work. I will do one last test before making a purchase but, again, the motherboard is the most likely culprit. The motherboard in question is an MSI MPG X570 Gaming Pro Carbon Wifi. Would it be wise to buy this exact motherboard again? If not, which compatible motherboard should I buy?

I just retired my r7 3800 and I beat the hell out of that machine with vr and vr modded games. When I get home tonight I’ll edit this to say what board I have in there, it is rock solid and outside vr that machine is a beast

I have had good experiences with ASRock boards. But I would say check out used sources like ebay. Should be a bunch of good AM4 boards for not a ton of money.

If you want an MSI board, just do a MAG X570 (or B550) Tomahawk. I have a B550 AORUS Pro on my machine, and she’s still running just fine.

I think another reason for your motherboard’s death is due to Windows being Windows. Have you looked into using Linux with a distribution like Bazzite?

I’ve only installed Windows once on my machine. Massive regret. The distro I was using was EndeavourOS. Other distros that I’ve installed were Ubuntu and Manjaro. I might look into Bazzite once I get this resolved.

Manjaro was a mistake for my producer, Neigsendoig, when he first started using Linux. Right now, the two of us currently use CachyOS (an Arch-base) with some RICE that he did. Bazzite is immutable (think mobile operating system concepts, but on a desktop), and it’s good for beginners (though Neigsendoig and I are actually against immutable distros in practice, due to hindering the ability to learn how to fix typos in system configs) who are afraid of messing things up.
