I’m playing Baldur’s Gate 3 for the first time right now. I’m not particularly a fan of turn-based games, but I’m digging there interpretation of the genre. I like how each character has a limited amount of movement per turn and the ability to navigate through the entire environment. I’m surprised more developers don’t use a similar model.

I have a feeling Bethesda’s executives ordered the development team to make it as un-controversial as possible. “I don’t give a damn if the game is terrible. You will lose your jobs if you compromise this merger.”

…the average worker in Africa would need to spend more than a year of wages to buy an Xbox or a PlayStation. Game consoles are in fact luxury goods, we just take them for granted.

I had the same opinion, but it changed after playing Doom (2016, Xbox One) and Doom Eternal (2020, Xbox Series X) back to back. The difference was dramatic.

I still believe we are reaching a point where Moore’s law is hitting a fundamental limit, but only time will tell how things will pan out. My guess is that consoles will need to get bigger to get better.

I think the problem might sort itself out once the data centers are actually built. The impact from maintaining a data center is probably less than from actually building one.
