Jack Dorsey money too. But the code and whitepapers look good. IMHO take over the discourse. It’s mostly dumb rightwing conspiracy nuts and libertarians right now but it’s not very popular, lemmy.world could easily take over and relegate the early adopting groups to obscurity.

It isn’t a great discord replacement but it’s a metadata blackhole with PQC and Tor support that’s surprisingly stable.

It’s going to end up decided by whoever gets something good enough for streamers to use professionally first. Maybe XMPP, ive just seen it fail at adoption so many times and matrix seems to be what has the most momentum

This is the most secure option but it isn’t discord. Stable, Post Quantum cryptography and defeating metadata analysis is core to the protocol. But the mobile clients are heavy and can eat battery. It also lacks multiparty voice chat which IMHO is a critical discord feature.

Simplex and Mumble or Jitsi would be close and very secure but not at feature parity.

Yeah matrix needs a refactor or fork. No good drop ins this month.

Simplex already has PQC enabled and makes metadata analysis a nightmare from a protocol level without Tor. Needs more optimization and super peers to fix a group delivery bug but surprisingly stable for something so new.

Matrix seems closer to me. XMPP has been ignored for 20 years. Fluxer might be good in a few months. Simplex is secure and fairly stable now but not a great discord replacement.
