I assume its on purpose, to make the characters standout more. I get the feeling of old films where live performance was mixed with animated cartoon. So the contrast might be a design choice. I personally do not get the feeling of “default marketplace asset”-flips.

By all respect without hating on it (love the game as it is), there is not much innovation in art style or gameplay here. From what I read in reviews the gameplay is oldschool standard shooter mechanics (which is good news to me!) and the art style is old and known, also used by other games before. What makes this game so special is how well it is executed and brought it into one coherent game.

The article links to to the article its talking about, which creates reports (this one is for free). My assumption is, that the report clears it up and is the main article all data is based on. However to get a copy of the report I need either put my mail address or create an account, but not sure about that one. I’m also not interested enough to do all of this.

It remains an open question.

Once the famous Nostradamus in the year 1569 that

one day a life service videogame called Fairgame$ will release and it will fail.

Nobody understood what he meant back then, because videogames weren’t invented yet. But now it makes perfect sense.

At the cart window before paying, there can be a notice if the game is available for cheaper price in a bundle in example. There were a few such cases in the past, which saved me a few Euros. I don’t know if any of the other store fronts on PC does that, let alone on console.

Firefox addon: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/steam-database/

Shows information directly on every page for game. I customized the settings and for me the most relevant information displayed are the lowest recorded price and how many players the game has.

Little late posted, as the data is released now. And there is not much data, other than numbers how much Rockstar made money (especially off GTA 5). And because Rockstar made so much money, their stock prices went up with a value of about 1 billion USD.

Off course I already got affected by removing ability to purchase games, I wanted to buy when they get cheap. Now I cannot anymore (at least certain games on Steam). These affect me personally. What’s so hard to understand that the game in this post does not affect me personally and I do not care about this game on a personal level? I don’t have to care about every game.

I am however for archival of the game to preserve it for the future (not by the company, but more like we play Roms in emulators or install old Windows games from Abandonware site). Preservation is important and I do not discriminate there. But I do not care if pseudo games sold as a game for money. I do not see a value in buying this “media” in tricking people its a game. Those who have it do not lose access anyway.

First those who have it don’t lose access. Only new people will not able to purchase it anymore. Second where did I say its not important? I only said I don’t care on a personal level, because it does not affect me and because I don’t think its a game at all. The game is most likely already preserved. In fact I am for archiving every bad game too, that is important. I play old bad games for fun in emulators in example.

Maybe a hot take, but I don’t care this game being taken down as it is just an interactive movie and not a real game. It’s a shame a media is taken offline though. But at least it does not hurt me personally.

If you like Forza 5, then you will probably like Forza 6. Those who had hands on say its pretty much like Forza 5. Biggest difference is obviously the setting in Japan and the game has some progression starting with low cars. And the graphics are more dense and varied then before. This is what I personally expect.

Thanks for the list. For the moment I’m only interested into official licensed games for this topic. In the coming days I will probably dive into researching more to come up with something. I was thinking of Racing games, maybe sports or fighting games would be likely to have them. Or some classic collections with added bonus material and achievements. But ultimately, I don’t remember ANY game from the old days doing that. Your list is definitely a good starting point.

I just started such a curated list for ingame achievements for any game that can be emulated in RetroArch. Problem is, its currently empty. :D Who knows maybe I write a blog post someday if the list becomes long enough.

Nah, its not for bragging or like that. I personally find the achievements cool, its just nice. I think this has something to do with collecting and finding and doing extra challenges you didn’t care much before. But not at that cost. The games itself stay DRM free to be honest, its just the achievement would not be validated at runtime. I think its more of a thing they don’t know how to do it right and have no time for (and no personal interest from devs), not with the intention to DRM the games for any customer.

While I rant, I also come down to earth (like now) and have an understanding and defend them (lol multiple personalities…). Realizing ingame achievements would be even more complicated and you would play a game that is not the same anymore. And the experience and integration into the system UI wouldn’t be the same too. So I do not think that Romhacks is the correct answer. They either find a way to do it like Steam does, or they give us a way to download achievement sets and use it offline without any account in our favorite emulators (off course the emulators would need to be adapted to the “new” system too). It’s just unfortunate, because I really really liked achievements. That’s why it’s bitter.

As for any games with ingame achievements, I would love to have such a list. Good idea, need to start collect it now. :-)

Unfortunately not. Lot of people asked for this and discussed with the “developers”. They say its hard to implement, while preserving their other goals of providing Leaderboards and Scores (you get points for each achievement). With offline achievements its easier to cheat them. You need an account too, otherwise it would not sync to the online database. I wish there was a way to download and use it without an account, so its not possible to cheat, because I personally don’t care about the online Leaderboards. This is the official reason.

Rant incoming: love the idea and how it works with RetroArchivements. My only problem, and that’s the reason I do not use them, is that with RetroAchievements games turn basically into an always-online game. Especially with handhelds this is annoying, because I do not have online connection on my Steam Deck all the time. And once I was playing a JRPG and could not play it offline, because I did not want to miss the achievement. That’s when I realized this is not for me. I would love to have offline achievements.

There are also services by fans to revive the online experience of servers that are shutdown. One famous (and funny name) is Pretendo Network. I never got into these fan created online servers, but the idea is amazing.

Otherwise there are so many great games one can emulate. Also one of my favorite stuff from the emulation and retro scene are Romhacks and Mods. Think of it as Mods for your PC games, but instead for the classic console games. They can take any form, like DLC like new content like characters, vehicles, maps, randomized builds, new graphics or bug fixes, new stories, game modes, or new attacks or skill sets and even simple cheats. Romhacks are a world of its own to explore. In past years I wrote a few articles about this with many recommendations. You just need to know how to patch them (its explained in the article). Have a look as an inspiration to play next: https://thingsiplay.game.blog/2025/01/23/snes-mods-and-romhacks-collection-2025/

Sony would have called this a “Remaster” and sold it separately for 50 Dollars.

Thank you for looking into, appreciate the help. I wanted to read the article later to figure out the details. I think a custom Kernel goes a bit too far for my taste, so will then wait until its officially integrated.

Also the linked articles headline is

Fixing AMDGPU’s VRAM management for low-end GPUs

And in the entire article the word nvidia is not found once.

I think RADV Vulkan means its for AMD, not Nvidia. Nvidia has their own set of drivers. Unless I am misunderstanding here something.

I wouldn’t mind if it works perfectly fine through Proton to be honest. But anything that requires and locks to Windows only is bad for gamers, developers and the future of human race.

I don’t think sbox should fail if it does not support Linux. But if it ends up locking games and the developers behind Windows, then I don’t want it to become popular.

I’m not really indepth familiar with the series. But if every new entry feels like a simple DLC, then I can understand why people get upset. While I do not expect a revolution with every new entry, they should be distinct in some ways. At least after multiple entries. The engine improves, new console generations and new developers.

What I expect is, same engine and developers from Horizon 5, but with new setting. As someone who never got into the series before, this is actually exactly what I want!

What you describe is not unique to this game. Would you pay for this if it was a DLC to Forza 5? I see it as “more content”, but with a new game engine and setting. I don’t think that every new entry of a game in a series needs to revolutionize. I am okay with a new style or setting, with slight improvements and lots of new content. That’s what a new entry in a series should be (at least for racing games). As long as it is not like the yearly sports game updates FIFA in example.

And it’s alright to talk about stuff you want to, to get it out of your chest. This is a forum and a perfectly valid place (so a game review would be too). It’s good to see what other people are bothered with, because it could be a reason not get into in example. I never played Horizon game before, so cannot judge how it feels for you. For me, this is the first time I’m really really interested into the game series, as I (and many others) love the Japan setting.

Disappointing to read that. But I think its a little bit too early to make a definitive mind yet. At least this is Open Source, so people want to make it work on Linux. Sadly even without Linux support I do not think it would flop (I know you wish to lol). It would be sad if Garry’s Mod does not work on Steam Machine.

Wait, Balatro doesn’t have a “custom engine”. They use https://love2d.org/ . On itch.io you can even search games made with this engine: https://itch.io/games/made-with-love2d

Nothing wrong with Godot. It’s just not the industry standard. Godot competes against Unity, but does not cost any money and its Open Source (so you know a company can’t do whatever they want). I’m not a game developer, so cannot go deeper than that I guess. :D

The game engine should not be a factor in my opinion, but sometimes I have some feelings. In the end ultimately the game itself and how fun it is is the most important factor.

  • Unreal Engine 5: This engine has such a poor reception for me, that whenever I see it I dislike the game before even having a chance to play. Its not fair I know, but its also not my fault that I think like that. Often games with this engine have stutter issues, require lot of resources and for whatever reason, most AAA games launching with this engine are in a bad state. In the end I will buy a game if its good, obviously, but the engine has a little deciding factor to look deeper or not… even if its just a little factor.
  • Unity: I personally don’t like Unity anymore for the bullshit they did. But if I am honest, if the game is good then I do not care if its in Unity.
  • Godot: I really want to like games made with this Open Source engine. But if I am honest again, I would not buy a bad game even if its made with this engine.
  • RPG Maker: I am a fan of oldschool RPG Maker, so I don’t mind that. But whenever I see made with RPG Maker (or suspect it), the value of the game goes dramatically down for me.
  • any custom engine: I highly respect good custom engines, made specifically for the game or company. They often feel and look different, so its actually a factor. Or at least it will make me curious and look deeper into the game.

I don’t know how far you compare, as I only know him since I saw the Tetris video (with the great reveal part). He is not the only one that speaks lot slow, there is at least one another YouTuber (in a different context, but still gaming). Initially I suspected they slowdown videos to get longer playtime. But maybe not.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zLAu1Cy9_SQ As usual, Sumoning Salt has a massive video documentation about a games world record achievements. Its a long video, but very well narrated and put together. I personally recommend watching the video at 1.4x playback speed, if not at least 1.25 times. The video opens with Mark Cerny, the head of Playstation, being the first who did a speedrun on the game Spyro. There are no timestamps at the moment. If they are added to the video, then I will update this post with the timestamps for listing purposes (if I notice them later).

It runs does not mean it supports it. So we need to see how this turns out in the future. The compatibility could break with future requirements and changes. I’m just worried because Garry is not a very Linux friendly.

Obviously we are not, if you put stuff into my mouth I didn’t say or meant to say (where I was clear and even explained it to you afterwards).

No you didn’t. You made an assumption about if i like it or not. And my reply has nothing to do with if i like the updates or not. I am not sure how to be more clear than my extended explanation.

Every year in gaming needs a big failure release

There is no strict answer to this, as we can look it from mulitple perspectives. There is this overhyped expectation vs reality failure, promises not being fullfilled. But are these games really a failure? I mean Anthem sold more than 5 million units. Fallout 76 and No Mans' Sky was a failure on launch, but they redeamed and are successfull now. Similarly Battlefield 2042 and Call of Duty Black Ops 7 are failure compared to the previous entries in the series, but are still one of the top selling and played games of the year. For some Halo Infinite would be a failure, but I don't think it's that bad to be on this list. It's just disappointing like the newest Call of Duty entry. Also there are failures, which I personally do not see it as such, but they are failures from development cost. Shenmue on the original Dreamcast is cited often as such.

Final Fantasy 7 version differences - extensive list
I thought it might be interesting to check all the version differences of Final Fantasy 7, as SquareEnix announced a new version is coming to Steam. I speculate it will be based on the Switch release from 2019. I found the following Wiki article to be interesting and want to share: https://finalfantasy.fandom.com/wiki/Final_Fantasy_VII_version_differences > The following is a list of version differences between releases of the original Final Fantasy VII. The versions primarily covered are of the original PlayStation release, and the PC port which it is based on, as they are the two significant releases for the game. Re-releases are based on either of these two platforms. The original PlayStation version also details differences between the Japanese release and the International version, which includes the changes made for the rest of the world. ``` Contents 1 PlayStation 2 NTSC and PAL version 2.1 Midgar 2.2 Chocobo Farm 2.3 Junon 2.4 Corel Region 2.5 Gold Saucer 2.6 Nibelheim 2.7 Temple of the Ancients 2.8 Forgotten Capital 2.9 Gaea's Cliff 2.10 Whirlwind Maze 3 International 4 PC (1998 version) 5 PlayStation Network 6 PC (2012 version) 7 Mobile 8 Eighth generation and later of video game consoles 8.1 PlayStation 4 8.2 Xbox One and Xbox on PC 8.3 Nintendo Switch 8.3.1 Patches 9 PlayStation Classic 10 Citations 11 External links ```

Am I the only one who thinks that Nvidia is analyzing the gameplay footage you play, to feed their Ai tools? And you login with your account in their cloud, in example your Steam account. They have access to everything theoretically. The Ai can analyze everything... I was about to try the free tier to play games that do not work on Linux. Streaming could be a way to at least play some of the games I could not otherwise. The cool thing is, I have full access to my Steam library and do not need to buy games for this service. But I really dislike the idea that Nvidia could use all of the information to feed their Ai.
