I put in £30 early on almost a pound per year at this point

Indie games are what games always were before marketing became louder than the programmer’s and artists.

Weird response, mate. It doesn’t seem like you read what I said. I’ve already said I’ve blacklisted Nintendo, as in, I’m not buying their stuff any more. That’s moving on.

When I say I’m invested, I mean I follow the gaming industry as a whole and made a gaming pie on 212 for fun. It’s not some emotional attachment to Nintendo, it’s just interest in the market.

This is my last reply, because you’re just being contrary instead of actually talking about the points raised. So it’s just going to drift off topic and bloat the thread.

“Hilariously out of touch.” I love doing these petty over effort responses, so here we go.

My comment about indie games beating AAA increasing over the years is pretty easy to show. At the time of this comment Palworld has the 3rd highest player peak of all time on Steam at 2,101,867.

The peer release for pokemon Z-A sold 5.8 million. Palworld has sold 25 million.

“But Palworld came out first.” This is an early access indie game that has possibly beaten, or at least matched, Game Freak’s flagship. Judging by the complete lack of effort and the poor quality of Z-A, that flagship is sinking fast.

Click “About” and you’ll see that the top ten over the last year have been dominated by indies or small studios. This isn’t just the PC scene either.

The age demographic is objectively older. Nintendo themselves (yes, six years ago, but still their data):

“According to our latest data, we have seen that the ratio of players in their 20s and 30s has risen for Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon compared to past Pokémon titles for Nintendo 3DS.”
Source: https://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/pdf/2017/170201_2e.pdf

More recent (2021):

A more recent take, though not official:

Accusing me of being in an echo chamber when I’m actually invested in Nintendo is wild. I put my money where my mouth is, so I do this weird thing where I trawl through their PDFs, look at the market as a whole, follow the trends and form my opinion based on that.

Have a good weekend, everyone!

They don’t seem to realise how much this has cost them. Post-Iwata Nintendo was already going to struggle, and they’ve just doubled down with the same arrogance in a market where a $6 game beating a $60 one is becoming more and more common.

My second console was an NES when I was 7. I’m in their biggest demographic, and Pokémon’s biggest demographic too – one that isn’t growing, by the way.

The Switch is the last one I would’ve been willing to buy. They’re another brand that thinks they have automatic access to my purchasing choices, and another one I’ve personally blacklisted based on behaviour. With emulation, we’d always say “yeah, it’s a dick move,” but you can at least understand it, even if they have no intention of releasing some of their most-wanted backlog or letting you transfer your digital ROM purchases. But going after indies just for showing them up as complacent, fat dragons trying to patent “mid”? Lawsuit or not, get fucked.

I’m not the only one, either. I think the only people left are those who see Nintendo as video-game iPhones and autopilot into a purchase, and the diehards who have dedicated Amiibo rooms.

Been looking to start this series when I get some serious down time

Nintendo have just patented software versioning better luck next time PP

The first game was a cult classic full of bugs because of how early it was created in the source engine’s life. It exists only because a small passionate fan base push past the bugs created patches. This is not an IP where you can say fuck you pay me to the audience, especially in the current gaming climate. Additionally these aren’t new clans they chose the most popular clan that most people chose for their first play through, We have Vampyr, we have v-rising, we have Blood Of The Dawn walker coming. We’ll all wait for the inevitable GOTY version in a year or two.

This is windows, So Valorant is running its anticheat stopping Battlefields anti-cheat from starting up. Meaning you will have to pick one game as they all seem to start from boot though other sources have said the games have to be running.

In Linux you could prob just run a pass-through in a couple of VMs. But Linux itself doesn’t work with most of these anti-cheats so by default no one running Linux is exposed to this sort of thing.

Not my screenshot but rainmeter is awesome

Yeah, to stop another CrowdStrike, but it’s not a sure thing, yet there’s talk of api’s etc and wouldn’t surprise me if certain companies got a pass. An article covering your point: https://www.theverge.com/news/692637/microsoft-windows-kernel-antivirus-changes

Battledield now throwing an error because Valorant is already sitting in kernel memory. Time to buy your EA Battlefield PC but don't forget your Valorant PC

Weird how entitled publishers have become, you don’t automatically get peoples money because “gaming”. Something is only worth what people can buy it for learn it one way or another.

That’s easy have some self control and only buy games that respect you

Playing horizon zero dawn atm. Got easy red 2 and battle front 2 and road craft for multiplayer with my group

Charging premium while delivering worse than Ali-express

But this indie game is only 50p and so is this one and this one and this one…

It’s more of a status for publishers and Devs to hit.

Fake, this has physical games Switch 2 just has hardware keys

Why not both? My main argument was that while some seem to be saying that the outcry wasn’t justified, it probably made many people have a closer look at their security.

Never a bad thing to have a people change up their passwords and address security

Got to shuffle things about for tencent

Don’t pre-purchase digital licenses

Nintendo are rightly losing their free pass with gamers.

EDIT [context from know your meme of all places](https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/events/godot-engine-user-blocking-controversy-wokot) :D : Apologies Overview Godot Engine Blocking Controversy refers to a controversy surrounding the community manager for the game engine Godot blocking users on X / Twitter and, reportedly, GitHub over negative reactions to a social media post in support of indie games with LGBTQ+ and "woke" themes. The blocking became a subject of viral discussions on X and Reddit in late September 2024, with the hashtag #Wokot used by posters to refer to it. Background On September 24th, 2024, an indie video game developer posted footage from the upcoming Windstorm: The Legend of Khiimori on X[1] / Twitter, revealing that it was built using Unreal Engine 5. In the X[2] thread, user @kryztofcheski wrote, "Woke studios always use pre-built engines to make games because they can't build their own engines." In the following days, several X[3] users quote posted the post, mocking the presumption that gaming engines could be "woke" (example post shown below). On September 28th, indie developer and pixel artist @Cosmic_Scr wrote on X[6] that they were blocked by Godot Engine on X after replying with Godot Engine creator Juan Linietsky's quote "I deeply believe that any political discussion that puts labels to a group of people is one that should not have started." On September 28th, 2024, Godot Engine backer Starkium reported that they were blocked on X[7] by the account over a comment. Developer @dev_bonnie made a post about being blocked by Godot Engine on X,[15] writing, "Erm friendly fire" and pointing out that they are bisexual. 10.0 Godot Engine @godotengine. So many Mods for old games got updates this month, here’s a list for Ubisoft’s shame
I started this as a comment on this post https://feddit.uk/post/13922816 Then I thought, let's just pop them all into a thread. For some reason this year, all the major mod teams have been producing gold for games going back to the 90s, proving that if you let people mod, your game will never die. Just finished Spiderman Miles Morales
Just finished it on the pc having everything on high it looked so pretty. It was the perfect two weekend game about half as big as the first one introducing some more mechanics and leaning into stealth which became the most fun way for me to dispatch most the combat encounters. It really only started falling apart at the end ::: spoiler spoiler As usual with these games I'd done all the side missions with the aim of doing a ending run in one session. Map looked complete but no got to do one more for uncle Aaron. The whole ending section of the game was just needlessly padded out from the museum section nice cameo though, to the final battle with the Tinkerer outstaying it's welcome after about the fifth time she yonks Miles into the air to the very end watching him crawl to the reactor for something that should have just been a cut scene. Found Phins arc kinda meh all rushed at the end. Thought it would have been a lot better if she just trusted Miles and died trying to stop the reactor. ::: The game was a great noodle game I really like Miles as a character well worth it if you want a big game feel in a small package

UK petition of “Require videogame publishers to keep games they have sold in a working state” just got thrown back to the Government
I just received this email saying that the response "did not respond directly to the request of the petition" You recently signed the petition “Require videogame publishers to keep games they have sold in a working state”: https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/659071 The Petitions Committee (the group of MPs who oversee the petitions system) has considered the Government’s response to this petition. They felt the response did not respond directly to the request of the petition. They have therefore asked the Government to provide a revised response.
