This isn’t talking about gambling stuff, no. To be clear, there’s definitely a fuckton of money to be made off gamblers, but this is just about people buying appreciation “DLC” like soundtracks.
I’m reminded of the full page of junk DLC that some anime games get, adding 30+ outfits and little charms for protagonists that already have pretty good default costumes, or even unlock costumes through gameplay. Sometimes they just give you a trivial number of expendable items ingame.
But I imagine some metric tells them to add those things, because some fans exist in this world that will throw money at a franchise beyond reason.
If the game is cheap and good and isn’t free to pay sure but screw that guy, you know EA, Ubisoft, and any other game company will follow the same plan with no scruples and will probably use AI to generate all of it once they can.
I haven’t read the article, but by the headline I can say: If I like a game, I probably will buy its DLCs even thought I know I will no play them, why? Just because I love the game and I want to help their developers. But if I know an developer is shitty why I would spend money on him? I believe is simply as that but I can be wrong.

Meh, I’ve been dissapointed by Cyberpunk music so dunno if I’ll buy any other music.
Honestly, if the game is too cheap and I end up putting more time than money into it, I’ll happily pay for the extras.
I’ve done exactly that. Or bought multiple copies to gift to people who may or may not ever play them.
